Jarell Quansah has lauded James McConnell after the Liverpool midfielder’s first professional start for the Reds this weekend against Norwich City.
The Kirkby graduate was named in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI for Sunday’s FA Cup clash against the Canaries, with McConnell assisting the opening goal with a fantastic pass to Curtis Jones.
The midfielder is regarded as one of Liverpool’s most exciting young players, and McConnell gave an excellent account of himself on the weekend at Anfield.

Quansah said: “Seeing Macca get his first start after really excelling in pre-season really well and playing that No.6 role, which is new to him, to be fair, but to have him playing in front of me he was calm.
“I was almost telling him at times to keep it simple but he was doing stuff and I was like wow! He did some unbelievable stuff, including the assist, so I’m happy for him as well.”

And based on signs this season, the departing Liverpool manager is doing just that, with McConnell impressing on his full debut for the Reds on the weekend.
Whilst McConnell still has much to learn, there’s a strong chance that the midfielder could go on to become a regular for Liverpool if he can keep his head down and keep pushing himself.
And from what we saw on Sunday, McConnell is on course to have a bright future, with his Liverpool teammates seemingly buzzing for the youngster after his performance.
