'Wow': Andy Townsend stunned by 24-year-old Liverpool player v Luton today

Liverpool drew 1-1 with Luton Town this afternoon as they failed to close the gap on those above them in the title race.

The Reds were fortunate to get the point in the end as Luis Diaz headed in to round off a traumatic week for the Colombian winger on a personal level.

For Liverpool in general, the performance was not a great one and there were some disappointing moments from a number of their big players. The biggest of which came from a shocking miss from Darwin Nunez.

Nunez missed a glorious chance from yards out after Mo Salah’s put-back and pundit Andy Townsend couldn’t believe what he’d seen.

Andy Townsend can’t believe Darwin Nunez miss v Luton

Speaking for Premier League productions, Townsend was left stunned by just how bad the miss from Nunez was.

“Mo Salah should score; the ball in is absolutely perfect. He’s onside, as is Darwin Nunez…. wow. Mo Salah is trying to score, he’s got the header horribly wrong, and in the end it’s almost a gilt-edged assist; if Darwin Nunez puts the bottom of his boot on it, he scores. Incredible chance – chances,” Townsend said.

The two sides of Darwin Nunez

This week has perfectly highlighted just why people get so frustrated with the big striker.

He’s gone from the sublime in midweek against Bournemouth, to hitting the bar today, and then fluffing the easiest of chances later on.

The miss from Nunez was quite something and just goes to show why Liverpool fans believe he still has so much work to do in his game.

Liverpool will be annoyed at dropping points against Luton and it could well be a result that costs them.

Luton, of course, will be delighted with a point as they fight against relegation.
