'Worst game in a Liverpool shirt': Danny Murphy really disappointed by one player after Manchester United draw

Danny Murphy has claimed that Dominik Szoboszlai probably had his worst game for Liverpool in their frustrating draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

The pre-match expectations many of us had that the Reds would tear Erik ten Hag’s side apart would prove to be wide of the mark.

Liverpool lacked quality in the final third, rarely testing Andre Onana properly. And Dominik Szoboszlai was one of those who really struggled to make much of an impact on the game.

Szoboszlai has been exceptional since joining Liverpool in the summer. However, the Hungarian’s form has arguably dipped a little in the last few weeks.

Jamie Carragher said that both Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah were sloppy in the first-half against Manchester United.

And speaking on Vibe with Five, Danny Murphy suggested that he is not sure he has seen the 23-year-old play worse for the Reds since his arrival in the summer transfer window.

“I’ve not seen us play at home that badly creativity. We didn’t make really good chances. We got in good positions. But the final ball, that little bit of confidence, that little bit of magic dust that we normally have at Anfield, it gets us over the line, we’ve won every game, haven’t we. So, it’s a little bit disappointing. In the bigger picture, it’s just one of those things that they have to recover from,” he said.

“I do think we missed [Alexis] Mac Allister’s guile in the middle of the park today. I thought Szoboszlai probably had his worst game in a Liverpool shirt, because he’s been terrific,” he went on to add.

Midfielder will know that he can do so much better

What will frustrate Jurgen Klopp is that none of his players had the quality they needed against a Manchester United side who have shown little this season.

Szoboszlai has to take some of the responsibility for that. Whenever he got into the crucial positions on the pitch, his first touch was often off. And that cost Liverpool as they looked to make an immediate return to the top of the Premier League table.

However, Murphy’s claim probably says more about how good Szoboszlai has been than it does about how poor he was on Sunday.

In truth, he did not stand out for being particularly bad. But he will be disappointed with his showing.

And he will have little doubt that he can do so much better.
