Ange Postecoglou is one of the names Liverpool have on their radar as the Reds start to step up their search for Jurgen Klopp’s successor.
Ange Postecoglou has done an incredible job at Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs were in a mess when he took over. But they now find themselves in the title mix in the Premier League despite losing several key players to injury at various stages of the campaign.
It is no surprise therefore, that Liverpool are considering Postecoglou, according to The Athletic. It was another report from The Athletic which noted that the Australian would love to manage the club one day.
Postecoglou showed with his departure from Celtic in the summer that he is prepared to make tough decisions over his own future if he feels that he has the opportunity to move forward.
Liverpool target Ange Postecoglou praised Alisson earlier this season
So Tottenham fans may be slightly concerned should the Reds come calling following the news that Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty ImagesSpurs will hope that they can convince Postecoglou to stay if the call does come. But the chance to work with some of the Liverpool squad will be tempting.
One of those Postecoglou has previously praised is Alisson Becker. The Liverpool goalkeeper was lauded after his performance in Tottenham’s controversial 2-1 win over Klopp’s men earlier this season.
“Well look, yes they’ve still got some top players,” Postecoglou said to beIN Sport at the time.
“They’ve got a world-class goalkeeper who’s making unbelievable saves and it’s hard when you’ve got so many bodies in the box.
“I just thought maybe at times we could have varied the way we got the ball into the box, some of our crosses seemed to pick out some big guys in there.”
Tottenham fans may feel uneasy about links
Postecoglou has built a brilliant squad in North London already, and that includes the goalkeeper. Guglielmo Vicario has arguably been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this season.
But Alisson has been one of the players to set the standard in the top-flight over a number of years. And it is a similar situation in a number of other positions.
The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are also going to go down amongst the Premier League’s greatest ever in their respective positions.
So if they are all likely to be staying next season, it is going to be a hard offer for any manager in the world to turn down.
That may be the worry for Tottenham fans right now.
