Who is going to be the next Liverpool manager?
That’s the question that’s been on everyone’s lips over the past few weeks after Jurgen Klopp announced that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season.
A number of top coaches have been linked with the soon-to-be vacant post, but one name has been discussed more than any other.
Indeed, Xabi Alonso appears to be the man the fans want to come in and take over from Jurgen Klopp.
Alonso has the backing of many supporters, and now, he also has the backing of one Liverpool legend.
Indeed, speaking on the Blood Red Podcast, Steve McManaman has stated that he’s keen to see Alonso in at Anfield, claiming that he would be a wonderful choice as the next manager.

McManaman shared his verdict on Alonso.
“Xabi is doing great isn’t he? I know Xabi very well, I’m biased towards him. I just hope he’s successful, as a friend of mine I hope he wins the league. I don’t know if he fancies the Liverpool job yet and I wouldn’t ask him that, but he’d be a wonderful choice wouldn’t he, with the standing he has at Liverpool, he knows the city, he worked here and he lived here more importantly,” McManaman said.
Ticks all the boxes
McManaman is spot on here, Alonso would be a fantastic choice for Liverpool.
Simply put, the Spaniard ticks almost every box for the Reds.
He’s doing incredible work over in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, so his coaching credentials are very much there, while on a personal basis this one makes the world of sense.
Indeed, Alonso is one of few managers out there that truly gets Liverpool as a club and as a city, and his connection with the fanbase and the surrounding area makes this one a no-brainer.
Whether or not Liverpool can pry Alonso away from Bayer Leverkusen remains to be seen.
