Manchester United v Liverpool is the big standout fixture this weekend as the FA Cup and Premier League both have games taking place.

A big quarter-final clash between the two biggest clubs in England has brought some much-needed attention back to the competition.

For Liverpool, it’s a chance to keep their hopes of a memorable quadruple alive. The Reds have already sealed the League Cup and cruised through in Europe, while they’re level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table.

And writing in his regular column for The Telegraph, Jamie Carragher believes the opponents mean that Jurgen Klopp will go absolutely full strength against United.

Klopp to select his best XI v Manchester United

Predicting how Liverpool will line up to face their bitterest rivals, Carragher has said that because it’s United, Klopp will be going full tilt.

“Klopp and his players will smell blood. Against less illustrious opponents, Klopp might be tempted to play more of his youngsters. Before the last round against Southampton, I was among many Liverpool supporters who hoped to progress in the FA Cup, but deep down was content to prioritise the title bid and Europa League following the Carabao Cup win. The pairing with United changed that. As Klopp said before the third-round tie away at Arsenal, you don’t compromise in fixtures like this,” Carragher said.

No time for sentiment

While some of Liverpool’s youngsters are good enough anyway like Conor Bradley and Jarrell Quansah, Carragher is right in that Klopp is unlikely to go with many more.

Sure, the likes of Bobby Clark have done well in recent months. But this is a game against Manchester United, and the chance to seal a trip to Wembley. Klopp, then, will want his best players at it from minute one.

Those youngsters can be trusted, we’ve seen that before. But against United and with a cup semi-final at stake, Liverpool will want their main men playing.

This is a huge chance for Liverpool to keep a memorable looking season going. A win over United puts them just two games from another trophy and Klopp will be desperate to see off his old foes.
