‘Why haven’t people picked up on that?’: Robbie Savage says one Liverpool man should’ve been sent off v United

Diogo Dalot picked up one of the most ridiculous red cards we can remember against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Portuguese full-back was booked twice in a minute for two counts of dissent.

This was a bizarre incident, and it was made all the more bizarre by one incident earlier in the game.

Indeed, Darwin Nunez was booked earlier in the match for barging into Jonny Evans, and after the decision he sarcastically clapped an official – a clear act of dissent that has been previously punished as such.

Speaking on BBC 606, Robbie Savage has been discussing this incident with Nunez with a caller, and he’s of the opinion that the Uruguayan should’ve been sent off.

Nunez should’ve been sent off

Savage shared his verdict on Nunez.

“Look at Darwin Nunez when he got booked for his challenge on Evans, he clapped the official, so why didn’t he get a second yellow card?” The caller asked.

“That is a great point, I saw that, that is a great point. There you go, again, I saw that and why wasn’t that two yellows?” Savage said.

“There we go, why haven’t people picked up on that? I remember seeing it, he got booked, he clapped and he didn’t get a second yellow, there’s inconsistency.”

One rule for one

Look, we all probably agree that a red card for clapping in a derby game would’ve been ridiculous, but if you’re going to send Dalot off for what happened later on, Nunez should also have gone here.

Dissent is a strange rule, of course, players should be respectful of the officials, but in these big games, emotions will run high and that’s something that needs taking into account.

In our view, either both Nunez or Dalot should’ve been sent off or neither Nunez nor Dalot should’ve been sent off.
