'Who is he?': TalkSPORT pundit stunned by how bad £39m Liverpool player, says he's unrecognizable now

TalkSPORT’s Scott Minto has been trying to sum up Liverpool’s poor form this season and has questioned Fabinho in the middle of the park.

Like so many in Liverpool red this season, Fabinho has been off the pace. He was laboured against an energetic Leeds side yesterday and ended up on the losing side.

The Brazilian has been a mainstay for Jurgen Klopp. Regarded as one of the best in the world in his position, there is no doubting Fabinho’s standards have dipped a tad. And speaking on TalKSPORT this afternoon, Minto believes we are seeing a player who is the shadow of his former self.

“I mean Fabinho. Who is he at the moment? I don’t know who he is. It’s a twin brother playing at the moment. He’s not the same player he’s been in recent years,” Minto said.

Fabinho was signed by Liverpool for £39m back in 2018. Since then, he has won a Premier League title and Champions League with the Reds. Along with Man City’s Rodri, he is regarded as one of the best the PL has to offer in defensive midfield.

TBR’s View: Fabinho drop off coinciding with Liverpool drop

It’s no surprise really. When a team’s best players stop producing their best form, a team overall suffers. That’s what’s happening with Fabinho and Liverpool here.

The Brazilian has been so good for Liverpool. He has set standards few can match. But the problem now is he’s struggling to hit those standards himself.

Fabinho is vital for Liverpool. When he doesn’t play, they miss him. But at the moment, they desperately need him back to his best and in all honesty, this World Cup break could do Liverpool a huge favour.

If Fabinho can get some form and sharpness back, then Liverpool can start to look forward again.
