Liverpool have a real knack when it comes to uncovering unpolished gems.
The Reds have signed a number of unknown or unfancied players over the years and turned them into superstars.
Andy Robertson had just been relegated from the Premier League when he signed for Liverpool, as had Georginio Wijnaldum, while Mohamed Salah was still seen by many as a Chelsea flop.
Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Micah Richards and Gary Lineker have been discussing Liverpool’s ability to uncover these players.
Richards stated that he wasn’t sure about Sadio Mane when he first arrived at Anfield, with Lineker stating that Diogo Jota is another player he wasn’t sold on when he first came to Merseyside.

The pundits discussed some of Liverpool’s signings.
“When they signed him (Sadio Mane) from Southampton I was thinking I’m not too sure about this signing,” Richards said.
“They’ve had a few of those over the years Liverpool haven’t they? Jota, and people like that, when they got him from Wolves everyone thought,” Lineker said.
“Yeah Jota is class,” Richards concluded.
Unconvincing
Lineker says he wasn’t sold on Jota when he first arrived at Liverpool, and, to be honest, we can’t blame him.
Let’s not forget, Jota had never scored double figures in a Premier League season before joining Liverpool, and he wasn’t the main man in that Wolves team.
However, since arriving at Liverpool, he’s gone to another level. He’s clearly taken a lot on board from Jurgen Klopp over the past few years, and he’s played a huge part in the Reds’ title push again this season.
The £40m signing of Jota was slightly baffling at the time, but since arriving, he’s proven that he’s more than worth what the Reds paid for him.
