Alexis Mac Allister has now revealed that Jurgen Klopp put him in a position he didn’t expect to play in when arriving at Liverpool.
The 25-year-old made the comments when speaking to TyC Sports.
So, what did Alexis Mac Allister say about his role under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool? Let’s take a look…
Alexis Mac Allister enjoying a new position at Liverpool
Well, the Argentine said he expected to play as a right sided No.8 when he arrived in a £35m deal from Brighton back in June.
Mac Allister has mostly played in that position, although he now admits Klopp has occasionally deployed him in a new area – the No.5 role.
For those of you who are unaware of what the No.5 role entails, think of Sergio Busquets at Barcelona – it is typically associated with a defensive midfielder who can also ignite attacks with clever passing skills.

Mac Allister said: “What I improved the most in Europe is learning to play in various sectors. It is very important to give variations to the coach and the team. You realise when several of the starters are injured as happened to us this Sunday.
“When I arrived I came with the idea of being inside on the right, but I finished five and I love playing there.”
Alexis Mac Allister has transformed Liverpool
The likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have undoubtedly made Liverpool more fun to watch, although Mac Allister’s arrival was the turning point in terms of making the Reds a functional side once again.
Make no mistake about it – the South American is a proper footballer.
So far this season, Mac Allister averages 2.8 tackles and 1.1 interceptions every 90 minutes in the Premier League, as WhoScored shows.

In stark contrast, Jordan Henderson – to provide a comparative example – averaged just 0.9 and 0.6 tackles and interceptions respectively last season, so the intensity of Klopp’s side has clearly increased thanks to the Argentina international.
For just £35m, Mac Allister surely has to go down as a potential signing of the summer.
