‘When he’s running’: Levi Colwill says £34m Liverpool player is truly horrible to play against

Levi Colwill has named Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah as his toughest opponent in the Premier League so far.

The Chelsea defender has been thrown in at the deep end at Stamford Bridge this season.

Colwill has been put straight into the team, and, at times, he’s had to play at left-back for the Blues.

Colwill started the season at centre-half against Liverpool, but he was still run ragged by their wide players with Salah causing all sorts of problems.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Colwill said that Salah was the toughest opponent he has faced so far this season.

Colwill says Salah is his toughest opponent

The defender spoke about the £34m Liverpool ace.

“Who’s been the hardest player you’ve come up against so far then?” Colwill was asked.

“Oh, that’s a tough one. I’d say maybe Mo Salah I think. When he’s running at me I know if I give him half a chance he will score or create an assist, and that’s what happened against us. It was a mistake from me to show him both sides down the line and cut inside. It’s a big learning curve because top top players only need one chance,” Colwill said.

Welcome to Chelsea

We have to feel for Colwill.

The defender was given his Chelsea debut in the toughest of circumstances.

Could you imagine having the nerves of making your first appearance for a team like Chelsea and being tasked with stopping arguably the best Premier League player ever.

Colwill put in a respectable showing against Liverpool on the opening day, but, even then, he wasn’t able to stop Salah grabbing an assist and changing the game with his attacking contribution.

Colwill has had a solid season so far, but making your debut against Salah is such a tough task, and we can’t blame him for feeling as though he struggled a bit.
