What will happen if Liverpool win the Carabao Cup

Liverpool face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday – where Jurgen Klopp has a chance to secure the first trophy of his farewell campaign.

It is a repeat of the 2022 Carabao Cup final – which Liverpool won on penalties – and if the Reds emerge victorious once again, there are a number of prizes heading to Anfield.

So, what will happen if Liverpool win the Carabao Cup? Let’s take a look…

What will happen if Liverpool win the Carabao Cup?

Well – obviously – Liverpool will secure the Carabao Cup trophy itself if the Reds beat Chelsea, but what else is in store for Klopp’s men?

Carabao Cup prize money

Incidentally, there will be some prize money on offer for the winner of the Carabao Cup – albeit not a lot.

Liverpool will be handed just £100,000 if they win what is traditionally known as the League Cup on Sunday – according to the Mirror.

That is enough to pay Joel Matip’s salary for one week – to emphasise just how small an amount it is for a Premier League outfit.

Nevertheless, every little helps.

European qualification

Furthermore, Liverpool will actually qualify for Europe if they can overcome Chelsea at Wembley.

The winner of the Carabao Cup will automatically qualify for the UEFA Conference League Play-Offs.

However, this is highly likely to be passed down to the next highest Premier League finisher, with Liverpool set to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, at least – barring any shock collapse in the second half of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

Medals

Liverpool will also be in line to receive winners medals if they beat Chelsea – but how many are up for grabs?

Well – as detailed by the Manchester Evening News – EFL rules state: “In addition to the cup, the Management Committee shall present 30 souvenirs to the winning club in the final tie and 30 souvenirs to the losing club.”

However, Liverpool can actually buy more medals if Klopp wants to acknowledge everybody – even those behind the scenes.

EFL rules also state: “Additional souvenirs may be presented with the consent of the Management Committee but shall be at the cost of the requesting club.”
