Liverpool were the frustrated party tonight as Manchester United held firm to secure a 0-0 draw at Anfield this evening.
A stuttering performance and some resolute defending from United ensured the spoils were shared.
For Liverpool, it was a frustrating night on the whole. They got nowhere near the levels they’ve shown in recent games and at the same time, saw Erik ten Hag’s United side rarely look to win the game.
At full-time, Virgil van Dijk was clearly annoyed as he claimed only Liverpool tried to win the game.

We carry on of course but it is frustrating because we were superior in all aspects. In the end they are buzzing with a point and we are disappointed with a point,” Van Dijk told the BBC.
And it seems Van Dijk’s frustrations continued down the tunnel too, as journalist Alex Crook shared an exchange between the Dutch defender and United stopper, Andre Onana.
Van Dijk can be annoyed all he likes
At the end of the day, United and Liverpool are in different moments right now and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with how Ten Hag’s side did their job today.
Ultimately, it’s down to Liverpool to break teams down at home and they simply couldn’t do it tonight.
United held firm and Onana was a key factor in them frustrating the life out of the game.
Liverpool were the heavy favourites going into the game and rightly so. With that, United were always going to set up defensively to try and stem the flow of chances and that’s what happened.
No wonder Onana was smirking, then. Van Dijk can have little complaints. On the night, his team just weren’t good enough.
