Ruben Amorim has been firmly in the headlines this week as an agreement with Liverpool appears to be edging closer.
We have seen Portuguese sources claim that the man from Lisbon has already been offered a contract to take over from Jurgen Klopp until 2027.
Other outlets have stated that the 39-year-old would prefer to manage Liverpool rather than take over from Xavi at Barcelona.
Given the volume of these stories, it can be hard to tell what is true – although a line straight from senior sources at Liverpool has now arrived to offer some clarity about Ruben Amorim…
What senior sources at Liverpool are saying about Ruben Amorim
Well, a story from Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany dominated the news earlier on Tuesday.
The respected journalist claimed that Amorim and Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement, and the Portuguese tactician does want to replace Klopp this summer.
Now – however – senior sources at Liverpool are singing from a different hymn sheet.

Senior sources from Liverpool are also informing journalists that due diligence is still being carried out on a number of options by Michael Edwards – CEO of Football at Anfield – so a decision is yet to be made.
That has surely burst a few bubbles of optimism around Merseyside, although in truth, the update is nothing unusual from an official club source, who often like to err on the side of caution in case of a breakdown in negotiations.
Senior sources are highly unlikely to come out and confirm a piece of news like Plettenburg’s claim at this point of the season.
Silence until the summer is likely
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool were keen to respect Sporting CP’s Primeira Liga title charge and did not want to distract Amorim, but felt that movement needed to happen in the hunt to replace Klopp this month.
Therefore, with both Sporting CP and Liverpool involved in title races, we strongly expect both sides to keep denying the rumours until the 2023/24 campaign ends.
