Old Trafford was a place full of grumbling Manchester United fans at half-time today as Liverpool entered the break 2-1 up.
Man United were left shellshocked really as two goals in quick succession from Alexis Mac Allister and then Mo Salah ensured Liverpool held the lead at half-time.
For Liverpool, it was a arguably more than they’d deserved. The Reds had been nowhere near their best.
However, that didn’t stop the Liverpool fans giving the United fans some stick as soon as Mo Salah scored the second goal.
Liverpool fans mock Manchester United fans at Old Trafford
Of course, the rivalry between United and Liverpool goes back way beyond just this fixture and the last few years. Liverpool have, though, been on top pretty much since Sir Alex Ferguson left and the Reds fans were quick to make the Old Trafford crowd know it.
Photo by Stu Forster/Getty ImagesReported by the BBC’s Phil McNulty, Liverpool fans immediately unveiled a banner to mock the United fans and team as soon as Salah made it 2-1.
“And what a turnaround. Liverpool’s 9,000 fans are jubilant, brandishing a large banner emblazoned with the message: “Imagine Being Us”. Manchester United’s supporters will feel the pain of that one after those two quick-fire goals,” McNulty wrote.
Liverpool are streets ahead
While United had their time in the 90s and 2000s under Sir Alex, there can be no denying who the winner of this battle has been in the last decade.
Liverpool look streets ahead of United at times. And that’s in all aspects of the game.
Off the field, Liverpool have the set up that United are now trying to catch up with now that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is involved. But on the pitch, too, the Reds are miles ahead of their rivals.
While today was a tight game at times, Liverpool should have put things to bed before the hour mark.
