What Darwin Nunez was seen doing after Liverpool beat Chelsea in extra-time yesterday

The likes of Darwin Nunez being missing for Liverpool against Chelsea yesterday eventually made the win so much more special.

Jurgen Klopp admitted after the game that this trophy lift was one of the best he’d ever experienced, and his depleted squad was a big part of the context.

Early in the final, the cameras panned to Liverpool’s bench at Wembley, with the likes of Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai all sat behind, unavailable due to injury.

And in the end, ‘Klopp’s kids’ were good enough to beat an incredibly expensive Chelsea side.

But perhaps what proved most impressive on the afternoon was how Nunez reacted when Liverpool eventually overcame Chelsea in extra-time.

Seen via Sky Sports’ live coverage of the game, Nunez, who was missing the game due to a muscle injury, certainly didn’t hold back with his celebrations.

Upon the end of extra-time, Nunez sprinted towards the pitch, hurdling the advertising hoardings to celebrate with his teammates.

And whilst it was a pretty incredible leap for a player suffering with an injury, Liverpool’s physios might not be so impressed in hindsight.

It remains unclear just when Nunez will return, but you would have to think the forward has some chance of being ready against Southampton on Wednesday.

Perhaps the Uruguayan will take a spot on the bench, but it would be a surprise if he was rushed for a cup game, given his importance for the title race.

Although Liverpool’s beleaguered side were victorious on this occasion, it would be hard for this squad to maintain a spot at the top of the league.

The likes of Salah and Nunez will be needed up top, especially with the further injuries suffered at Wembley yesterday.

So although Liverpool’s staff may not be too pleased with Nunez’s exuberant celebrations against Chelsea, perhaps they will actually bode well as a sign of how ready he may nearly be.

Of course, Liverpool fans will already know that Nunez’s one hundred percent intensity is a huge part of his charm as a footballer, and they certainly won’t want him to change.

That being said, Micah Richards did spot a Liverpool player going crazy at his teammates during yesterday’s final.
