Liverpool may well be the kings of the January transfer window.
In a window where, historically, there isn’t much value to be found, the Reds somehow continuously manage to pick up great players for great prices in the winter.
The likes of Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Daniel Sturridge have all been truly fantastic January signings over the years for Liverpool.
Speaking on TalkSPORT’s YouTube channel, Gabriel Agbonlahor has been discussing some of the greatest January signings of all-time and he says that Liverpool’s acquisition of Philippe Coutinho for £8m in 2012 was one of the best signings of all-time.

Agbonlahor shared his verdict on the Brazilian.
“Number three I’m going to go with Philippe Coutinho. What a signing he was for Liverpool. Some of the games, some of the goals, even when he was at Villa recently, he didn’t have the legs anymore, but when he got into the spaces, he was frightening, that first touch, the finish he had bending it into the top corner, he had that finish on lock, a career to be proud of,” Agbonlahor said.
What a signing
This may well be one of the best signings in Premier League history.
Yes, better players have come and gone, but from a pure business perspective, this may be the best transfer in the history of English football.
Signed for £8m, sold for £146m, the return on investment that Liverpool got on Coutinho is unlike anything we’ve seen before or since.
Add into that the fact that Coutinho was brilliant during his time at Anfield, and you have one of the very best signings the club has ever made.
Coutinho may not be the greatest player the Premier League has ever seen, but he could well be the greatest signing that has ever happened in this league.
