Liverpool beat Chelsea in the League Cup final yesterday as a mix of youth and experience got them over the line in the end.
Virgil van Dijk’s late goal won it for the Reds to cap off a resilient display that was influenced heavily by a big influx of youth off the bench.
However, while those young players have been praised and Jurgen Klopp himself was impressed by his young stars.
But in the midst of those young players impressing, a number of more experienced players showed their worth as well.
And one of those experienced players, Wataru Endo, caught the eye of ex-Liverpool defender Phil Thompson.

Speaking about the Liverpool win on TalkSPORT this morning and how injuries once again impacted things after Ryan Gravenberch went off, Thompson admitted that the performance of Japanese star Endo had really caught his eye.
“The injuries are going to be massive, you just look yesterday, it was an absolutely dreadful tackle on Gravenberch which he had to go off, he was stretched off. Allegedly, Endo who was unbelievable by the way yesterday, what a player he is, he left the stadium in a boot,” Thompson said.
Endo another Liverpool bargain
When you look at Liverpool’s recruitment in the last few years they have, in the main, got things right.
And when it comes to Wataru Endo, who only cost around £15m, it seems the Reds have done it again.
The Japanese star is one of the more undervalued players in this squad but he showed yesterday, as he has done in recent weeks, that he is vital to this Liverpool team.
Klopp signed Endo in the summer as something of a squad player but over time, he’s shown that he’s now a player who might actually be hard to drop for the German coach.
As Thompson says, Endo’s performance here was unbelievable and on the biggest stage of them all.
