'We know': Journalist thinks £150m star could become a target for Liverpool if their Bellingham move fails

Football journalist Dean Jones has suggested that West Ham United star Declan Rice could become a target for Liverpool if they can’t get Jude Bellingham next year.

The Reds’ transfer priority in the next two windows, as it was this summer, is a new midfielder. Bellingham is the man who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, but there’s no guarantee that Liverpool will be able to get him as the competition for his signature will be massive.

Declan Rice could become a target for Liverpool if they can’t sign Bellingham

Declan Rice is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. He is good enough to play for any club in the country, and it’s a surprise to many that he’s still at West Ham United.

The Englishman is destined for a big move away from the London Stadium at some point, and next summer could well be when he’ll move on.

Chelsea have been the ones who have tracked Rice for a long, long time now, but Jones has just suggested that Liverpool could turn their attention to him if they fail to get a deal done for their priority transfer target – Bellingham.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “We know that Liverpool will be in the market for a player of that type next year.

“I still think that Jude Bellingham will be the priority for them, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Declan Rice was mentioned.”

Rice will cost a fortune

Rice would be a phenomenal signing for most clubs in world football. He’s a fantastic player, and Liverpool, if they can somehow get him, would be lucky to have him.

However, West Ham will demand the world for him.

David Moyes revealed back in April that West Ham’s asking price for Rice will be a minimum of £150 million (The Athletic). That is an outrageous amount of money, and whichever club agrees to buy him for that fee will have to smash their transfer record – unless it’s PSG, of course.

Football is a funny game and anything can happen in the next few months, but we can’t see a world where Liverpool will spend so much money to sign Rice anytime soon, even though he is a magnificent player.
