Liverpool have had some truly incredible players pass through Anfield in recent years.
The Reds won the Premier League and the Champions League with an incredible group of players, and while that squad is being dismantled with each passing transfer window, we mustn’t forget just how good some of these players were for the Reds.
The likes of Fabinho, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson get their due credit for Liverpool’s success over the years, but speaking on the Aldo Meets Podcast, Dirk Kuyt has named one player who he feels is a bit underappreciated.
Kuyt says that people often forget just how good Wijnaldum was for Liverpool, claiming that he did a lot of great things for the Merseyside club during his time at Anfield.

Kuyt gave his verdict on the 32-year-old and his spell at Liverpool.
“It feels like in defence, Liverpool are getting more comfortable, Virgil is doing very well and I have a lot of respect for him. We forget about Wijnaldum too, but he did a lot of great things for Liverpool. Unfortunately, things didn’t go well after he left, but he was such an important player in the successful time he was here,” Kuyt said.
So important
Wijnaldum often is forgotten when you speak about Liverpool’s most important players from that era, but he really shouldn’t be.
The Reds’ midfield hasn’t been the same since the Dutchman left, and they’ve struggled to find anyone to fill that void left behind by Wijnaldum since.
Liverpool’s new-look midfield has been fantastic so far, but, at the same time, we can’t help but feel that they’d still benefit from having a Wijnaldum-type in their starting XI right now.
Wijnaldum is a modern day great for Liverpool, even if he doesn’t necessarily get the recognition he probably should.
