Jurgen Klopp’s decision to stand down as Liverpool boss at the end of the season came as a shock to many – but none more so than Liverpool’s squad, with many unaware he would be leaving the club.
The German manager has every chance to end his Liverpool era on a high, with the Reds in an excellent position to win the Premier League – and, the Europa League. They have already won the Carabao Cup.
But replacing Klopp, a huge figure not only at Liverpool but within Premier League football as a whole is some task. Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, the new CEO and sporting director, are tasked with it.
Plenty are being linked with the Liverpool hotseat. Xavi Alonso ruled out a romantic return to Anfield recently, stating he would be staying put at Bayer Leverkusen. Ruben Amorim looks a leading contender.

It is even claimed that his agent, Raul Costa, is meeting with Liverpool today to discuss a possible move – with Costa set to try and convince Sporting to let Amorim move to Anfield. He is close to a league title.

Dominik Szoboszlai only joined Liverpool last summer and he admitted in an interview with Stadium Astro that he joined Liverpool last summer largely because of Klopp – unaware that the German may depart.
What has Dominik Szoboszlai said about Jurgen Klopp’s exit…
“If Liverpool want to sign you you are not thinking about anything but an extra is if Jurgen Klopp is the manager. He called me, we had a good talk, he said he wants me and I said I want to join you,” he said.
“It was a quick decision but that’s football. He’s going to leave. Have a break, enjoy his life – he did this for a very long time. We don’t know who is coming next, but we are ready. It doesn’t matter who’s coming.”
Szoboszlai has been excellent for Liverpool and Hungary this season, the connection between midfield and attack this season. He’s had a hand in 19 goals in 44 games for club and country this season.
He is likely to be involved on Thursday night when Liverpool face Serie A outfit Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-finals. The Reds host Atalanta on Thursday, before going to Italy next week.
