Mick McCarthy has given his verdict on Liverpool forward Diogo Jota after watching him in action against Bournemouth this past weekend.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager and talkSPORT pundit believes that Jota is technically better than his Liverpool teammates Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.

So, what has Mick McCarthy said about Liverpool and Portugal international forward Diogo Jota? Let’s take a look.

Praise for Liverpool forward Diogo Jota

Well, Mick McCarthy has been raving about Liverpool forward Diogo Jota. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager has been hugely impressed by the 27-year-old Portugal international.

McCarthy believes that Jota is a better footballer than Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. The talkSPORT pundit has noted that he was brilliant at Wolves.

The pundit has also said that Jota is underrated and has been a bargain signing for Liverpool.

The Merseyside club paid Wolves £41 million (BBC Sport) in transfer fees to sign Jota in the summer of 2020.

McCarthy said about Jota on talkSPORT (7:57 pm, January 21, 2024): “I think he is a technically better footballer than Nunez and Diaz. I think those two are fairly young lads.

“They have got great athleticism and they are scoring goals and I think they are a real handful to play against, but when Jota plays in there and Nunez and Diaz are stretching them, he drops in and he is very good with the ball at his feet.

“He doesn’t waste it, and he gets his goals, of course. But I think he is a really good footballer. I thought he was brilliant at Wolves.

“He is still a bargain in my eyes because I think he is brilliant. Underrated yes. He is a good footballer. He allows them to play off him.”

My View: Diogo Jota a big player for Liverpool

In my opinion, Diogo Jota is a massive player for Liverpool. He has done well for the Reds and is a valuable option to have for manager Jurgen Klopp.

The 27-year-old scored two goals for Liverpool in their 4-0 win against Bournemouth on Sunday. One pundit said that Jota was “exceptional” in the Premier League game.

Jota has scored seven goals and given two assists in nine Premier League starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool this season.

The forward has also found the back of the net three times in the UEFA Europa League and once in the Carabao Cup this campaign.
