Martin Keown was blown away by what reported Liverpool target Enzo Fernandez did at the World Cup yesterday on BBC One.
Liverpool have been linked with moves for a host of midfielders ahead of the January transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp seemingly set on bolstering his options in the middle of the park.
The Reds struggles in midfield have been evident this season, with Thiago and Jordan Henderson picking up injuries earlier in the season.
Klopp’s men have been linked with a move for Benfica’s Fernandez, with Sport claiming that they are one of the many sides interested in the Argentinian.

Lione Scaloni’s men overcame the Netherlands on penalties and Fernandez was the only player for La Albiceleste to miss his spot-kick. But Keown was seriously impressed by what the youngster did during extra-time.

Argentina looked to be cruising into the semi-final as they led 2-0 with just 10 minutes of the game left.
But a Wout Weghorst double forced them into extra-time and Emiliano Martinez stepped up during the penalty shootout.
Fernandez put in another impressive display in the middle of the park and ran himself into the ground for 120 minutes.
The Benfica star pulled off a brilliant block in extra-time but was penalised by referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz and Keown was left baffled by the decision.
“That was an unbelievable block from Enzo Fernandez. I’m not quite sure why a free-kick was given,” Keown said on BBC One during last night’s game.

His form in Qatar and eye-catching displays for Benfica in the Champions League this season means he won’t come cheap. Record reports that the Portuguese outfit will demand £100 million for their star.
Of course, Liverpool seem to be fully focused on trying to lure Jude Bellingham to Anfield but Fernandez could be a brilliant alternative option for Klopp’s men.
He’s proving his quality on the biggest stage at the moment and his work-rate would certainly suit Liverpool’s high-energy style of play.
