151 Liverpool have been urged to sign Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite as a successor to their skipper Virgil van Dijk.
The Toffees defender has been in the news a lot over the last few days. He has been fantastic under Sean Dyche this season, and he is expected to be a wanted man in 2024.
Liverpool urged to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton
Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park recently.
The talented 21-year-old defender has shown real quality this season. He is a regular for the Toffees now, and he will only get better in the coming weeks and months.
Tottenham Hotspur have already made him their top target for January, and we really think he would be a fantastic addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
Now, Dutch journalist and pundit Suleyman Ozturk has raved about Branthwaite and even compared him to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk. He has also urged Jurgen Klopp to sign the Everton man.
He told Voetbal International: “I think the period in the Netherlands, in the Eredivisie, has been good for him. You mention that footballing ability that was also noticeable at PSV, but I also feel his positioning is unbelievable.
“In the duels with the Chelsea striker Broja I thought he was very strong. Micah Richards pointed him out on Match of the Day, and it was interesting because they picked out exactly the moments that I found interesting, the ones where he doesn’t bite but remains central, just like Van Dijk in his peak. That stopping power. He stops and then waits.
“The timing of his interceptions is special. He has height, footballing ability the timing for interceptions. He’s only 21 years old and in Sean Dyche, he has a trainer who is focused on defending and organising. He’s developed a few defenders.
“If I were Liverpool, I would buy him as a successor to Van Dijk. I really think he is the revelation of this season at Everton in the Premier League. He’s already a leader in a defence at a club in big trouble. The fact that at 21 you play in the starting line-up in a Sean Dyche team is not easy.”
Everton will not sell Branthwaite to Liverpool
On paper, Jarrad Branthwaite would be an excellent addition to Liverpool, but Everton are never going to sell their big talent to their most fierce rivals.
Only two players in this century have been sold by Everton to Liverpool – Nick Barmby in the summer of 2000 and Abel Xavier in 2002.
There’s just no way Liverpool will be able to sign Branthwaite from Everton, but the Toffees need to be careful as there are other clubs reportedly interested in him.
It will be interesting to see what will happen next year as there’s a big chance Branthwaite will leave Goodison Park for a bigger club.
