Liverpool saw off Sheffield United last night as they overcame a resilient Blades side to win 3-1 and Kolo Toure was very impressed with one player.
The Reds found themselves ahead thanks to Darwin Nunez closing down the goalkeeper but then needed to fight to win the game after Chris Wilder’s side equalised early in the second half.
In the end, both Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo ensured the game finished 3-1 and ensured Liverpool went back to the top of the table.
Of course, Gakpo’s header was the icing on the cake as United tired.
But the highlight of the night was the thunderous strike from Alexis Mac Allister. The Argentinian rocketed his effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.
And while his goal was a standout moment, former Liverpool defender Kolo Toure was keen to praise the midfielder’s ability to run the game from midfield.
Alexis Mac Allister shows his class for Liverpool against Sheffield United
Mac Allister was signed by Liverpool in the summer for what could be as much as £55m.
In recent weeks, Mac Allister has stepped up to the plate with some big moments. And after producing not only a fine goal but a fine 90 minutes overall, Toure believes Mac Allister needs praise for dictating the pace of the game from midfield.
Speaking on the official Liverpool FC Podcast, Toure lauded the World Cup winner.
“I think for me, he’s the guy who controls the rhythm of the game. You can see when he wants to accelerate the game, he can do it. When he wants to slow down the game, he can do it as well. And when the ball ended up at him you knew what was going to happen. Unbelievable strike. I think he is a really really important player for the team,” Toure said.
Mac Allister has become one of the key players for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season after initially starting the season off a bit slowly.
Now, along with Dominik Szoboszlai in the middle of the park, the former Brighton man has cemented his spot as one of the top men at the club.
As Toure says, he has an ability to control the game. All the best teams have a player like this, and if Liverpool win the title, then Mac Allister’s signing will have been a game-changing moment.
