474 Liverpool’s first team may not be in the position they want to be this season, but their youth teams are faring better.
The under-21s are only four points off the top of the table in the Premier League 2 and the under-19s are winning their UEFA Youth League group.
Under-21 head coach Barry Lewtas was speaking after their most recent win, a 5-0 drubbing of Wolves.
Lewtas picked out 20-year-old Layton Stewart for praise after his hat-trick on Saturday.

Stewart now has six goals in his first nine appearances of the season, and he’s already been compared to Fernando Torres.
Lewtas wasn’t just impressed with his finishing at the weekend, and wanted to highlight that Stewart had been training hard.
Stewart picked up a cruciate injury in March last year that kept him out of action for 13 months.
His goal scoring exploits at the weekend suggests he’s now kicking on from that setback.
Lewtas: ‘Stewart has trained ever so hard’
Speaking after Liverpool’s emphatic win, Lewtas said: “They were three brilliant goals.
“I’m really pleased for Layton. He has trained ever so hard after his long spell on the sidelines.
“He is not there yet, but he is getting sharper and sharper.”
Stewart has yet to make his senior Liverpool debut, but has been on the bench once back in 2019 against Aston Villa.

His serious knee injury has scuppered his progress within the club, but he’s now showing what he’s capable of.
Liverpool’s youth teams can now rely on Stewart and Oakley Cannonier to score them goals.
The latter came off the bench on Saturday and bagged a brace, and has been in sensational form in Europe.
He scored a hat-trick of his own against Ajax, much to the enjoyment of his teammates.
Injuries and poor form are affecting Jurgen Klopp’s first team right now.
If Stewart keeps training well and scoring goals for the under-21s, he might finally make his senior debut.
