148 Danny Murphy feels Liverpool need to sign a player just like Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich.
The former Liverpool midfielder was speaking on BBC One’s coverage of their FA Cup third-round clash against Arsenal today.
The Reds reinforced Jurgen Klopp’s midfield heavily over the summer, with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo.
Szoboszlai has starred this term while Mac Allister has also impressed, despite the latter playing in a slightly deeper role.
Endo is also finding his feet with some encouraging performances of late. But Danny Murphy believes Liverpool are missing a player like Joshua Kimmich.
Murphy thinks Liverpool should sign a player like Kimmich
Speaking on BBC Sport, Murphy admitted that Kimmich would be his ‘dream’ signing for Liverpool.
The pundit believes the Reds are lacking a midfielder who is able to dictate the pace of a game.
“I think they’ll go probably for a centre half because they’ve lost Matip for the season,” he said. “They are heavily reliant on Virgil. Quansah is a decent talent but he is inexperienced.
“If we’re playing an idealistic world, I’d like to see them get a midfielder like Kimmich. Someone who can dictate play in games, real top quality. But that’s dreamland.”
Of course, Liverpool have actually been linked with a move for Kimmich. But recent reports suggest the midfielder prefers a move to Manchester City over Anfield or Manchester United.
The 28-year-old is undoubtedly among the world’s best holding midfielders and would be an excellent addition to any top side.
Kimmich has scooped a Champions League title during his time in Munich, as well as eight Bundesliga titles.
Liverpool are lacking a ‘phenomenal’ defensive midfielder like Kimmich, despite Endo’s encouraging recent form.
Whether or not they can snap up Kimmich himself remains to be seen, But they will surely be looking at signing another No.6 over the coming transfer windows.
