Liverpool are set to be without Mohamed Salah for a few weeks in January, and Paul Merson believes Diogo Jota can take his place in the side.
The Reds are currently on top of the Premier League table after what has been a great season so far. Salah, once again, has been their main man, but he will be on his way to take part in the African Cup of Nations after Liverpool‘s next game.

Mohamed Salah is one of the best players in the world, and when he’s not available, Liverpool are just not the same.
The Egyptian has 16 goals and eight assists to his name in just 26 appearances. He is on course to having yet another incredible campaign, but his focus soon will be on his country.
Liverpool have confirmed that Salah will be away on international duty to represent Egypt in the African Cup of Nations next month.
He could miss well over a month of football if his side make it to the final of the competition, and that is not ideal at all for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool.
Paul Merson, however, believes Diogo Jota’s return from injury is a timely boost, and he has what it takes to fill Salah’s boots while he is away.
The pundit wrote on Sportskeeda: “Liverpool, on the other hand, got a hard-fought 2-0 win against Burnley in a game that marked Diogo Jota’s return to the team.
“He’s a top player and his presence will come as a timely boost for Jurgen Klopp, who is set to lose Mohamed Salah next month as the 31-year-old prepares to represent Egypt at the AFCON.”

No player in the world can do what Mo Salah does for Liverpool – he is a frightening footballer. But, Diogo Jota is more than capable of producing goals and assists for the Reds.
The Portugal international is a terrific footballer. He can play anywhere across the front three and has already proved his quality in the Premier League over the years.
Liverpool take on Newcastle United in what will be a tough game next. The Magpies aren’t in great form at the moment, but that doesn’t make them any less dangerous.
Salah will start that game this weekend, but it will be interesting to see if Jota will get the nod too.
