Alan Shearer is convinced that Xabi Alonso will find it incredibly difficult to turn down Liverpool should they come calling this summer.

Xabi Alonso has emerged as the early favourite to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool next season.

Reports emerged just yesterday that claimed the Reds have moved ahead of the competition to hire the Spaniard.

While Liverpool will be fully focused on the rest of the campaign with Klopp, talk surrounding his successor hasn’t died down since last month’s surprise announcement.

Alonso continues to impress in Germany too and his latest 3-0 win over Bayern Munich moved his Bayer Leverkusen side five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

Now, Alan Shearer has raved about the job the former Liverpool man is doing in Germany and feels he would be keen on a return to Anfield.

Shearer convinced Alonso will want the Liverpool job

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Shearer discussed Alonso’s unbeaten run in the German league as Leverkusen are yet to taste defeat after 21 games played.

He said: “What a job he’s doing, it’s incredible isn’t it? They’ve got one more game to equal that record going unbeaten. What a job he’s doing.”

Shearer was then asked if Alonso may be worried about the possibility of taking over from Klopp.

“It’s Liverpool,” Shearer responded. “One of the giants of world football.

“Depending on clauses and everything else, I would think that would be too good to turn down.”

You get the feeling that it would be difficult for Alonso to turn down a move to Anfield.

Of course, replacing Klopp will be a daunting prospect for any manager given the German’s impact in Merseyside. But Alonso is one of the most exciting up-and-coming managers in world football at the moment.

Due to his previous experience at Liverpool, you’d imagine that the idea of returning will also be tempting for Alonso.
