Alexis Mac Allister’s Liverpool career has had a slightly strange start.
The Argentine has been brilliant in certain games for the Reds, but he hasn’t really settled into a position just yet.
He’s played as a number six at times and a number eight at other times, and his form has been really hit and miss depending on the opposition and the position he’s played.
Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Paul Robinson has been debating what Liverpool’s best XI looks like right now, and he says that he’s not necessarily a fan of Mac Allister in that number six role.
Indeed, Robinson says that Mac Allister is often far too easy to run past in the midfield, claiming that a lot of the goals the Reds concede when he plays are from players running off of his shoulder, claiming that his weaknesses can often be targeted by the opposition.

Robinson shared his verdict on the £35m man.
“I think Mac Allister gets run off too easily as well, when he’s played. The goals they have conceded with people running off his shoulder, he’s targeted,” Robinson said.
Not a defensive midfielder
We really can’t blame Mac Allister for this, because he’s not a defensive midfielder by trade.
Yes, he’s not a bad defender, but that has never been the main focus of his game.
He’s not a Fabinho who will keep tabs on opposition attackers for a full 90 minutes, he’s a technical player who is at his best when he’s allowed to play box to box.
Liverpool are slowly figuring out how to get the best out of Mac Allister, hence the move to a more advanced role lately, but they do need to sign that permanent number six in order to give the midfield the perfect balance.
