‘Tied’: Journalist says Liverpool have as good a chance as Man City to sign ‘the best player in the world’

Kylian Mbappe is going to be at the centre of so much speculation over the next few months.

The best player in the world’ is entering the final six months of his PSG contract, and he’s free to negotiate a move abroad.

Of course, the dream of many football fans across the globe is to see Mbappe in the Premier League.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Mbappe’s future and a potential move to England.

Jones stated that the two teams in England most likely to sign Mbappe are Liverpool and Man City, claiming that he couldn’t separate the two in this race.

Liverpool and City tied in Mbappe race

Jones shared his verdict on the striker.

“I was trying to think of a mini ranking between these clubs themselves and who I would give the best chance of signing Kylian Mbappe, and I came out tied between Liverpool and Man City. He gets linked with Liverpool pretty regularly, Liverpool play it down pretty consistently, but when you consider Liverpool as a football club, the combination of the project and ambition and how they want to be more of a global brand than they already are, Mbappe works,” Jones said.

“What doesn’t work is the figures, but Mo Salah might leave and if that Saudi Arabia deal did come for Salah in the summer and Liverpool got a big lump sum and got his wages off, that’s the only time you can think Liverpool can contemplate bringing in Kylian Mbappe because you’re replacing one of Liverpool’s lifetime icons.”

Unlikely

As much as we’d love to see Mbappe come to England, it has to be said that this doesn’t seem likely.

The PSG star has seemed destined for a move to Real Madrid pretty much ever since he burst onto the scene with Monaco.

Mbappe to Madrid feels inevitable, and while we would love to see Mbappe coming and playing in England, we can’t see it coming to fruition.

Liverpool and City may be his most likely destinations in the Premier League, but it certainly looks as though Real Madrid are way ahead in this race.
