175 Liverpool have been heavily linked with Xabi Alonso in wake of news that Jurgen Klopp would be leaving Anfield at the end of the season.
The Liverpool boss will be departing the club in the summer, and the Reds are seemingly already looking around for his replacement.
Alonso, who has been working wonders with Bayer Leverkusen, has been tipped as an early favourite for the Anfield role.
However, Liverpool will likely have to compete with Bayern Munich for his services, particularly in wake of Wednesday’s update.
“We have agreed that we will end our collaboration after this season,” the Bundesliga website quotes current boss Thomas Tuchel as saying.
“Until then, I and my coaching team will of course continue to do everything we can to ensure maximum success.”
Xabi Alonso wanted by both Liverpool and Bayern Munich
Now, Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has dropped an update on Alonso amid links with Liverpool and Bayern.
Sadly, it’s not great news for the Reds. Plettenberg claims that, at this stage, Alonso appears to favour a switch to Bavaria ahead of Merseyside.
In addition, Bayern have reportedly enquired for him already, although Liverpool have done the same in the last few days, added the journalist.
“At this stage, Xabi Alonso is more willing to join Bayern Munich instead of joining Liverpool,” said Plettenberg, as per Sky Sports News’ X account.
“And this is also news I can give you, Bayern Munich – this is our clear, exclusive news and information – they have already enquired about Xabi Alonso
“But we also have heard that FC Liverpool have also enquired about Xabi Alonso in the last couple of days.”
