As expected, but with a catch.
As expected, following rumours after announcing his retirement, former Liverpool FC midfielder Thiago Alcántara is joining Hansi Flick’s coaching staff at FC Barcelona. He will also reunite with his coach at Bayern Munich, where they won a treble together during the COVID season.
However, as per FC Barcelona’s statement, this will only be an arrangement for their US summer tour. Perhaps Thiago will move on to a job at a lower level after that.

— Vision (@Lfc__vision) July 7, 2024Notoriously multilingual, Thiago is fluent in five languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, German, and English, and has infamously put that to good use as a translator between Darwin Núñez and Jürgen Klopp. Look at the clip where he’s speaking to kids above, he’s just a really good communicator. Throw in his technique, tactical knowledge and work ethic, it’s almost a sure bet that he’ll be a good coach. We wish our magician all the best. YNWA Thiago.
