Liverpool and Manchester City both won this weekend ahead of their crucial clash against each other next week.
The Reds snatched the latest of winners against Nottingham Forest while City simply overpowered Manchester United to continue their fine run of form.
Of course, next weekend means one of or both will drop points, with Arsenal and Mikel Arteta looking on with interest.
The game is at Anfield though and some will see that as an advantage to Liverpool, especially given City don’t have the best record there in recent times.

“They’ve got to defend like trojans. Cos they will cause some problems going forward because Liverpool, that’s what they do. But it’s all about [defending]. They’ll try and play their game cos I don’t think they can play any other way, so,” Nicol said.
Nicol joins the likes of Michael Owen in having their say on the big game over the weekend, while Joleon Lescott also threw his thoughts into the mix as well.
Liverpool will take a draw now
There is the factor of Anfield and also Jurgen Klopp’s last season to take into account here. However, you do suspect if Liverpool were offered a draw now, they’d take it.
Allowing City to come to Anfield and take three points would be a killer blow and not only would it put City in the ascendency, it would give Pep’s side a huge boost for the rest of the season as well.
Liverpool need to make sure they don’t lose the game, it’s that simple. If they can do that, then the title race might well be in their hands and they might just have enough to see it through.
Virgil van Dijk is back to his very best and with Nicol’s prediction here, it gives the Reds a good chance of keeping City out.
