Liverpool have hit a sticky patch of form recently, and, as you may imagine, the reactions to the Merseyside club’s recent run has been less than reasonable.
Indeed, fans and pundits have been quick to criticise Liverpool in recent weeks, and one player in particular has bore the brunt of the blame.
Darwin Nunez has been profligate lately, that’s for sure, but speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sam Allardyce and John O’Shea have gone out to bat for the Uruguayan, claiming that people have been unfairly picking on the Liverpool striker.

Allardyce and O’Shea spoke about the Liverpool striker and the discussions around his form.
“Diaz and Salah are missing them, and you wouldn’t expect them to miss them.
“Yeah, it’s not just Nunez, and people pick on Nunez,” O’Shea said.
“Yeah, they do actually, they do,” Allardyce said.
Darwin Nunez doesn’t have credit in the bank
Allardyce and O’Shea are right, Nunez does get judged differently to his teammates, but there’s a reason for that.
Salah and Diaz have done it for Liverpool for longer and more consistently, and of the three players, Nunez was the most expensive.
In fact, at £85m, Nunez is the most expensive player in the Liverpool squad. Of course it’s going to be noted moreso when he isn’t performing as you’d want him to.
The reality is that Nunez doesn’t have the same level of credit in the bank as some of his teammates, and that means that fans and pundits will be quicker to turn on him or judge his performances through a harsher lens.
Nunez is a player with tons of potential, but almost two years on from his arrival on Merseyside, we need to start seeing the striker performing on a more consistent basis.
