Just who is going to end up as Liverpool’s new manager seems to be anyone’s guess right now.
For so long, it looked like Xabi Alonso was going to be the man to take the job.
The Spaniard, though, has confirmed that he is staying with Bayer Leverkusen, leaving Liverpool to look for new names to pursue.
Of course, we already know a lot of those names. Ruben Amorim is said to be a firm favourite while Roberto De Zerbi has admirers at board level as well.
Simone Inzaghi has also had a mention this weekend, albeit language barriers appear to rule that one out for now.
And while those three are well-regarded in European football in general, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has suggested another man might be in the running.
Liverpool waiting to see what happens with international manager
Liverpool’s quest for a new boss is going to take them down a number of routes.
Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes will be doing their due diligence and in the end, they’ll hope to get it right, whether it be Amorim, De Zerbi, Inzaghi, or someone else.
Indeed, that someone else could end up being Germany manager, Julian Nagelsmann.
Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty ImagesAccording to Sky Sports reporter Sheth, writing for GiveMeSport, the German is wanting his future sorting before the Euros, with Liverpool waiting in the wings.
“Liverpool know Jurgen Klopp is going. They must start doing their due diligence, which will have already started with a new manager. There’s talk of Julian Nagelsmann. He wants his future sorted before the Euros. It’s pretty clever that he wants to do that because if he can get a new contract sorted before the European Championships start, it takes the pressure away from him come the summer. Of course, there will be pressure because it’s a home tournament, and he wants to do well in it. But he doesn’t want that to depend on whether he gets a new contract as the national team manager,” Sheth said.
“So, that could come to a head before the end of the season. If he were to sign a new contract at Germany, maybe that would take him out of the equation for potential Premier League clubs. He’s also been linked with Manchester United and, of course, Liverpool.”

While at 36, Nagelsmann is one of the top young coaches in world football, there are still question marks over him.
He was moved on from Bayern Munich after having a bit of a fall out. Indeed, journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested as well that despite being a ‘top’ coach, Nagelsmann might not be the right fit for Liverpool.
Further, the fact he has a job with Germany makes things all the more tricky.
However, if the Germans decide they don’t want to offer Nagelsmann a new deal and he is going to be on the market, then don’t be surprised if Liverpool interview him at least.
FSG have considered Nagelsmann before, as have Tottenham, and there is clearly a good pedigree there when it comes to the young German coach.
