221 Liverpool will continue to keep tabs on Leroy Sane as they look for potential Mo Salah replacements in the long-term.
Salah ended up staying put in the summer despite constant links to the Saudi Pro League and so far, has been in outstanding form for the Reds.
However, rumours continue to swirl over Salah’s future and one name who keeps getting a mention is Bayern Munich winger Sane.
And according to journalist Dean Jones, there is definitely something in those links to Sane.
Liverpool are interested in signing Leroy Sane
According to Jones, speaking to GiveMeSport, Liverpool are indeed in the mix to land Sane.
“Sane has been linked for a while and I think there’s something in it in terms of Liverpool want to be kept abreast of the situation, but I don’t think there’s anything imminent on the cards. I don’t think Sane is on the verge of joining Liverpool. But there is going to come a point when they have to start thinking more clearly about what happens after Salah. He’s not playing in the same way that he used to, but he is still the most influential player on that Liverpool team and he’s still the player that’s making the big moments count. So you do wonder where Liverpool would turn for somebody like that, and it will be helpful to have somebody with some Premier League experience. So the Sane links are very interesting in that sense, just in case they are looking for a successor to Salah,” Jones said.
Sane not on Salah’s level
In fairness, who is? But if Liverpool are to replace Salah they need to try and get someone who is going to be a sure-fire hit.
With Sane, there are inconsistencies to his game and while he’s done well at Bayern since leaving Man City for around £44m, he has had issues as well.
Of course, if Klopp can get the best out of Sane then Liverpool have a player on their hands.
Lauded by Pep Guardiola as an ‘incredible‘ talent, there is a lot to be said about Sane that is positive.
But whether he can actually replace Salah and get to that level is another question entirely.
