‘There is interest’: Pep Lijnders now says two Liverpool players could leave Anfield before the window shuts

Pep Lijnders has hinted that Calvin Ramsay and Nat Phillips could both leave Liverpool on before the end of the January transfer window.

The Anfield duo both returned to Merseyside this month after poor loan spells at Preston North End and Celtic respectively, with Ramsay and Phillips expected to go out again before the window shuts.

There has been interest in the pair, with Leeds United reportedly interested in Ramsay whilst Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Phillips could also be out the door again on loan.

And speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Lijnders has offered more insight into the pair leaving on loan, with the Reds seemingly at work in organising some departures.

Lijnders said: “Him and Nat [Phillips], good examples. There’s interest – [which] is good. We have to find – with the agent, with himself, with the clubs – the right decision for the player. He needs to have game time, needs to play, have a lot of success.

“That’s why I like the move of Fabio [Carvalho], for example. He plays a lot, is straight away decisive – together with Tyler [Morton]. Matt Newberry, our head of loans, he’s full of business this winter. He needs a holiday after this for sure! These boys all have potential, otherwise they would not be with us. But they need as well the right pathway. What you said, a good loan can do wonders.”

Ramsay and Phillips will be disappointed that their initial loan deals this season didn’t go to the plan, with the pair now training back at Liverpool.

Yet this January is a chance for the Reds to make amends after their poor decisions in the summer, and both Liverpool players will be itching to go back on loan.

For Ramsey, joining a club where the youngster can actually continue with his development will be key having missed essentially the last 18 months due to injury.

As for Phillips, signing for a team that can get the centre-back in the spotlight will be crucial, with the defender more than ready to move on from Liverpool on a permanent transfer.
