'Their downfall': Theo Walcott says Liverpool are facing something 'not nice' which could cost them the title

Liverpool are contesting one of the fiercest and most exciting Premier League title races in recent years this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are up against Arsenal and Manchester City in pursuit of the title, with just one point separating first place from third place.

This week, we’ve also been spoilt with a midweek matchweek, and Thursday night sees Liverpool in action after the Gunners and the Citizens won their games on Wednesday.

The Reds host Sheffield United in a 7:30pm kickoff at Anfield, and victory would put the 19-time English champions back at the summit.

When it comes to the highest level of football, fine margins can often make a lot of difference.

Now, Theo Walcott believes Liverpool are facing something along those lines that could hamper their title hopes.

What has Theo Walcott said about the Liverpool run-in?

The former Arsenal man, speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport, believes that a run of four away fixtures in a row in all competitions could prove dangerous for the Reds.

“The one thing I would say about Liverpool is that they have four away games consistently after Atalanta, which could be their downfall,” said Walcott.

“That is the only thing I would say. Having to play Atalanta, Fulham, Everton and West Ham all away.

“Having away games is not nice, because there are other things which could affect it like players leaving their homes constantly for four away games, that takes a lot out of players.”

Walcott does make a good point and, as a former professional, he knows better than most when it comes to the rigours of the game.

However, Liverpool’s players are professionals at the very top of their game, and they have the chance to make history this season, not to mention they will want to give Klopp the perfect send-off.

The prospect of winning a 20th English title – putting them level with Manchester United – and cap off Klopp’s reign in such a manner will hopefully push the players above and beyond.
