‘The thing is’: Danny Murphy doesn’t think £34m player will leave Liverpool

Danny Murphy has given his verdict on whether or not Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah could leave Anfield at the end of the season.

The former Liverpool midfielder made the comments about Salah while looking back on the Reds’ Premier League match against Manchester United this past weekend.

So, what has Danny Murphy said about Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah? Let’s take a look.

Danny Murphy gives his take on Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future

Well, Liverpool failed to win against Manchester United at Anfield in the Premier League this past weekend.

Liverpool headed into the match as heavy favourites. Many pundits backed Jurgen Klopp’s side to pick up all three points from the encounter easily.

However, United stopped them from winning the match and from even scoring. The Red Devils were quite defensive in their approach, but in the end, they got what they wanted – a point.

Looking back on Liverpool’s performance, former Anfield star Danny Murphy gave Mohamed Salah 5 out of 10. The BBC Sport pundit was not impressed by the display produced by the £34 million (BBC Sport) forward.

Murphy, though, thinks that Salah will stay at Liverpool beyond the end of the season.

There was interest in the Egypt international forward from the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2023, and he has been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2024 as well.

Murphy said about Salah on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel: “Salah, again, probably at Anfield his worst performance. I would go 5.”

The former Liverpool midfielder then jokingly said when it was noted that Salah could leave for Saudi Arabia at the end of the season: “I think he would leave if they win the title.”

Murphy then argued: “The thing is if he was going to go, why would he stay if he didn’t think this year or two was going to be successful?”

Mohamed Salah should stay at Liverpool

In my view, Mohamed Salah should not leave Liverpool at the end of the season. I believe that the 31-year-old has a lot to offer to the Reds.

Salah is still a world-class player. He is a goal machine and is one of the best and most important figures at Liverpool.

It would be a shame if Salah left Liverpool at his peak. Of course, I understand the appeal of playing in Saudi Arabia, but I hope that he stays at Anfield for another season at least.
