Liverpool are looking for a new manager this summer.
The Merseyside club are set to lose Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season, and they’re facing the most unenviable of tasks when it comes to finding a replacement for the German.
Klopp is undoubtedly one of the greatest of all-time, and finding someone to fill his shoes will be an incredibly tough task.
So, who should Liverpool go for? Well there are a number of managers who have been linked with a move to Anfield.
Speaking on the Ben Heath Podcast, Danny Murphy has been discussing who he thinks should replace Jurgen Klopp, and he says that Xabi Alonso is the standout candidate in his view.

Murphy spoke about the Bayer Leverkusen boss and who Liverpool should hire.
“Alonso is the standout for me. Not that there wouldn’t be guys out there who have a bigger body of work and would be better in that respect, but fans love him. His connection with the fans, he knows the club, and he’s a step ahead. He plays good football and I like the fact his demeanour is different to Jurgen Klopp, he’s calm and humble, he’s more chilled, more of a thinker, not a Duracell bunny all the time,” Murphy said.
Xabi Alonso would be ideal
Murphy isn’t wrong, Alonso would be ideal for Liverpool, but getting him to Anfield won’t be easy.
Indeed, Alonso has already committed himself to Bayer Leverkusen for next season, and barring a remarkable U-turn, he won’t be the next Liverpool manager.
Other options have been touted such as Ruben Amorim and Thiago Motta, but given how well Alonso has done this term and his history with Liverpool, it does feel as though he’s the perfect man for the job.
Sadly, Liverpool may have to look elsewhere.
