Liverpool drew with Manchester City on Sunday, and, as ever, this game didn’t go by without controversy.
Indeed, a last minute follow-through from Jeremy Doku on Alexis Mac Allister was a huge point of contention on the day, and there were serious shouts for a penalty.
In the moment, it was very hard to judge whether or not this should’ve been a spot kick.
On first viewing, it did look like it would’ve been harsh to give a penalty, but on repeat, it looks as though there was something in this.
Speaking on BBC 606, Robbie Savage has been discussing this incident, and he says that he’s actually changed his mind since watching it back, claiming that he now believes it was a penalty.

Savage discussed this incident with Chris Sutton.
“The more I see it, Chris asked me originally and I didn’t think it was a penalty. But the more I’ve seen it I think it is a penalty. The foot goes into the chest,” Savage said.
Tough one
This is such a tough one to call.
On one hand, Doku does kick Mac Allister, but on the other hand, he was trying to play the ball and he did get the ball.
If this was the other way around, we do feel that Liverpool fans would probably have had a different point of view, and vice versa when it comes to City supporters.
Sometimes, penalty decisions are just that subjective, and on a different day with a different referee, this one would’ve been given.
Frustratingly, this is a refereeing decision that could well decide the Premier League title, and if Liverpool do finish a point or two off the top come the end of the season, this debate will crop up again.
