'The linchpin': National media rave about Liverpool-linked star who produced 'Jay-Jay Okocha moments' in Qatar

Liverpool are among the clubs keen on signing midfield star Jamal Musiala, who starred for Germany against Costa Rica despite their early World Cup exit.

Musiala has been linked with a move to the Reds, with journalist Florian Pletterberg claiming last month that Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the youngster.

Of course, the 19-year-old is in no rush to leave Bayern Munich. He is earning his keep with the Bundesliga giants and is already one of their big stars. He is seen as a player with huge potential, and that potential was firmly on display in the German’s win over Costa Rica last night.

Indeed, despite their exit from Qatar, German media outlet Sportschau found time to praise Musiala.

“The youngster was allowed to play in the tenth position for the first time in the third World Cup game and immediately took advantage of his freedom. Musiala caused a lot of trouble with his dribbles and some Jay-Jay-Okocha moments.

“It is almost tragic that he hit the post twice but never in the goal with his numerous chances. In a few moments Musiala lacked the rip-off, but the 19-year-old’s handling of the ball alone was one of the biggest highlights of this World Cup. Musiala is the linchpin of the German game. The departure of this footballer is the real tragedy of the German debacle,” Sportschau wrote.

Musiala caught the eye of Peter Schmeichel against Spain too, adding further credit to what was a fine World Cup – individually anyway – for the youngster.

TBR’s View: Musiala at Liverpool is an exciting thought

Despite Germany flopping in general, Jamal Musiala didn’t half show what he was all about in this World Cup.

He was the best player at times for the Germans and showed plenty of moments of quality. His dribbling, ability to draw defenders in, and general threat in the final third were eye-catching. Certainly, it’s easy to see why Liverpool have cast admiring glances his way.

We know Bayern will want to keep Musiala. But if there is a sniff that Liverpool can get him, then it’s a deal that FSG simply have to push for.
