'The first time': Rio Ferdinand shares what he noticed Man City players doing because of Liverpool display

Rio Ferdinand has shared what he noticed Manchester City’s players do for the first time in ages as they struggled to cope with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool and Manchester City played out a brilliant 1-1 draw on Merseyside which leaves plenty of questions in the Premier League title race.

City had their chances. Phil Foden hit the bar, and Jeremy Doku hit the post with a late effort. But there is surely no question that Liverpool will feel that they were the ones to really pass up the opportunity to win.

On another day, Luis Diaz could have had a hat-trick. And obviously, some will feel that Liverpool should have had a penalty after Doku clashed with Alexis Mac Allister.

Liverpool will wish that they had secured the three points. But they will take a huge amount of belief from their performance. And City may actually be relieved to come away with a point.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand suggested that he saw Manchester City’s players seem almost perplexed about what they could do to contain the Reds.

“I thought City or a draw. But this was the first time, I saw Klopp said it after, they were on the ropes, City. It’s the first time I’ve seen them in a long time where I saw their established players look at each other and say ‘we’re in a battle today. We’re under pressure’,” he said.

A statement performance

It was the kind of performance which suggests that something special may be happening at Liverpool this season. Of course, they have already won the Carabao Cup with a remarkable display against Chelsea.

They are continuing to battle for three more trophies. And it would be no surprise at all if the Carabao Cup did not prove to be the final trophy of Jurgen Klopp’s incredible tenure.

It was not the result that they wanted on Sunday. But Liverpool definitely made a statement with their performance.
