195 Jamie Carragher has once again been singing the praises of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and made another big claim about the Dutchman.
Carragher is a big fan of Van Dijk and has praised the big defender on more than one occasion in the past.
Van Dijk suffered a serious injury which halted him in his tracks and affected his form. However, he now looks back to his best and it’s no wonder Liverpool look the business again.
And speaking to Freddie Ljungberg on ViaPlay, Carragher explained why he thinks Van Dijk is better than anyone the PL has ever seen.
Carragher says Van Dijk is the Premier League’s best
Speaking to ViaPlay, Carragher lauded the Liverpool skipper and said he was better than anyone Arsenal, Chelsea or Man United had had.
“I think he’s the best we’ve seen in the Premier League. It’s not about a Liverpool bias or nothing like that, cos I’ve always said John Terry, for me, was the one I always loved,” Carragher said.
“But when you think of a Tony Adams, Sol Campbell, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, some of the best in the Premier League. They didn’t have to receive the ball off the goalkeeper in the six-yard box. They didn’t have to defend on the halfway line with teams pressing. I think now, playing centre-back is the most difficult position to play on a pitch. You’re supposed to have the technical ability of a midfield player, and the pace to go with.”
The debate is always going to cause a stir and Carragher makes some valid points on Van Dijk and receiving the ball from the goalkeeper.
Of course, Arsenal fans and others might have a different opinion.
But there is no doubting Van Dijk is right up there. Even if he’s not everyone’s number one, he has to be in the conversation for nearly everyone’s top ten.
Certainly, Van Dijk being back to his best has definitely led to Liverpool looking more like their very best.
