Liverpool drew 1-1 with Manchester City yesterday as a raucous Anfield witnessed one of the best games of the entire season so far.
The Reds really kicked into gear in the second half as they pinned City back. In the end, they could have won the game and nobody would have argued much if Liverpool had won it.
As it was, Arsenal ended up being the ultimate winners as they sit top of the table. Pep Guardiola commented on the Gunners’ ability to score goals after the game, and Mikel Arteta’s side are now in a great position.
Of course, City won’t be too bothered by picking up a point at Anfield. It’s a tough place to go and the fans can make things hard work for any away side.
Indeed, commentating on the game for the BBC yesterday, Pat Nevin commented on the Liverpool fans playing their part in the result.
Liverpool fans help get result against Manchester City
Speaking about the impact of the fans, former Everton man Nevin lauded the Reds supporters.
“What about the negativity that Liverpool fans were giving to Manchester City? Booing them every single time they were on the ball. Now that will spook you now and again if you are a player. You want to play your passing, controlling game but you’re getting battered, you’re getting howls of abuse every single second, every time you have got the ball. So it’s not comfortable possession you have got. They played their part today,” Nevin said.

It gets a big billing in the media anyway but Anfield really does have a special feeling in certain games.
On another day, Liverpool have won that yesterday and it was interesting they weren’t kicking towards the Kop in the second half and if that made much difference.
As Nevin says, they hounded the City players all game and it will definitely have hindered Pep’s men in terms of doing their usual.
Liverpool’s fans are superb and yesterday they showed how good they can be. Anfield will be some place if they do win the league, especially in Klopp’s final season in charge.
