'That's who I am told': Liverpool's players want 41-year-old as new boss instead of Ruben Amorim - Alan Brazil

Liverpool’s search for a new manager is still ongoing, and the players at Anfield apparently have a preference over who should be their next boss.

Jurgen Klopp announced back in January that he will be stepping down from his role at the end of this season. That announcement shocked the footballing world.

FSG have brought Michael Edwards back, and Richard Hughes has taken over as the club’s new sporting director. The two of them are working together to find a new manager, which is not an easy task.

Ruben Amorim has looked like the favourite for the Liverpool job, but the players at the club would rather have someone else at the helm.

Alan Brazil shares who Liverpool players want as the next manager

Jurgen Klopp leaving is a big blow for Liverpool.

The German is the face of the club. He has done a magnificent job over the years and is arguably the biggest reason why Liverpool are among the best teams in the world.

The Reds are now working hard to find a new manager, but unfortunately for them, their top target, Xabi Alonso, made it clear he will not be making a move this summer.

Since then, Liverpool have been linked with a number of big names for the soon-to-be-vacant managerial role at Anfield, and Ruben Amorim emerged as their top target.

The 39-year-old has done an incredible job at Sporting Lisbon. His side are the favourites to win the Portuguese League title this season.

Amorim will definitely be a wanted man this summer, and Liverpool are clearly interested in him. However, their players actually fancy someone else.

After talking about Amorim’s recent comments where he claimed that he hasn’t had any talks with Liverpool or any other club, Alan Brazil revealed that Pepijn Lijnders is the man who the players prefer.

“I’ll stick by Klopp’s understudy, Pep. That’s who I am told the players want,” Brazil claimed on the TalkSPORT Breakfast Show this morning.

Lijnders has been with Jurgen Klopp since the German’s first day at Liverpool. He spent five months away as the manager of NEC Nijmegen in 2018 but returned to Anfield soon after.

Liverpool, however, have confirmed that along with Klopp, Lijnders will also be leaving the club at the end of this season.

Pepijn Lijnders has already shared his stance on becoming next Liverpool manager

Jurgen Klopp has been such a big success at Liverpool. Appointing him is arguably the club’s best decision in about two decades.

Replacing the German now is a monumental task for those in charge. They are looking at a number of names for the job, but who better than the man who knows everything about Klopp?

Pepijn Lijnders knows exactly what’s required to be successful at Liverpool, and if the players really want him as their next manager, we understand why.

However, the 41-year-old has already made it clear that he will not succeed Klopp this summer. He wants to become a manager elsewhere.

He said in February: “We knew already in the summer that we are coming toward the end of this project. The last years, I got offers. My heart always said yes, my loyalty and my respect and friendship with Mike and Jurgen said no.

“So, the moment we spoke and he (Klopp) said ‘I’m thinking about (leaving)’ I said that is, for me, clear: I will go and manage. We will end this project together. I feel that it’s the project of a lot of people and I feel that it’s the right way to do it, like this.

“The club can find a new coach with new elements. But I’m excited to manage, I’m excited to go, to find the right club who really wants (me). But until the last final of the season, I’m focused on Liverpool, not on what’s happening now. That’s why we have agents, no?”
