Alan Shearer is seriously impressed by a statistic he observed about one Liverpool player after their win over Brighton and Hove Albion.
Jurgen Klopp‘s side returned to the top of the Premier League table with a hard-fought win against the Seagulls at Anfield on Sunday.
Roberto De Zerbi‘s side made it very difficult for Liverpool, but the Reds’ class showed in the end. They picked up a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.
Shearer was impressed with Liverpool’s overall performance, but one stat about a Reds star seems to have caught his eye.

This was a big weekend for Liverpool.
The Reds went a goal down against Brighton very early on, and things could’ve gone bad. Jurgen Klopp had never beaten Roberto De Zerbi before yesterday either, so that put even more pressure on the hosts.
However, Luis Diaz levelled the game before half-time and Mohamed Salah found the net after an outstanding ball from Alexis Mac Allister after the break.
The win pushed Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table, and following Arsenal and Manchester City‘s draw at the Etihad, they stay there.
Speaking about Liverpool’s win on the Rest is Football podcast, Alan Shearer highlighted a key stat that he heard about Salah that blew him away.
The pundit revealed that the Egyptian had 12 shots at goal yesterday, which is just remarkable.
“Nunez had a really quiet game today, but then Salah, I think he had 12 shots, Salah, that’s unbelievable. He’s brilliant,” Shearer said.
“The sign of a world-class striker is you’re going to miss chances but you keep on getting in there and he just epitomised that today. He just kept on going and going and going.”
Mohamed Salah’s stats vs Brighton are very interesting
Mohamed Salah is Liverpool‘s best player, and that has been the case since his £34 million move from AS Roma back in 2017 (BBC).
The Egyptian had a good game against Brighton yesterday. He scored a goal and like Alan Shearer said above, he had 12 shots too – four on target, five off it and three of them were blocked.
SofaScore suggests that Salah could’ve easily had a hat-trick. Stats show he missed two big chances against the Seagulls. He also lost possession 25 times.
If you just look at the numbers, you would probably have a reason to argue that Salah wasn’t at his best, but the Egyptian scored the winner and was a constant threat throughout the game.
We’re sure Jurgen Klopp will focus on that and be delighted with his performance.
