Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team beat Chelsea against the odds yesterday as their young players stepped up to produce when it mattered.
The winner might have come from the experienced Virgil van Dijk in the end. But for Liverpool, the day was about those young players, who filled in for a dismal injury crisis with aplomb.
The likes of Bobby Clark, Jayden Danns and James McConnell all played their part and with Klopp leaving in the summer, it looks like he’s leaving quite the legacy behind.
Of course, Klopp was delighted with his youngsters and speaking about them after the game, the German had some high praise for them, including the aforementioned Bobby Clark.
Jurgen Klopp seriously impressed with Bobby Clark and Liverpool youngsters
Speaking to Liverpool’s official media channels about his teenage sensations, Klopp made reference to the ‘crazy’ development of 19-year-old Clark.
“In the end, you follow us obviously pretty closely and the development of Bobby Clark… that’s really crazy I have to say. The development of James McConnell is absolutely insane, and Jayden Danns has only recently joined us in first-team training. I loved him from the first second; really special. And he comes on today, OK he played in the last game, but he can score two goals in a Carabao Cup final. It’s absolutely insane,” Klopp said.

Most Premier League clubs have young players coming through the ranks now and emerging into the first-team but it looks like Liverpool have got a real quality crop on their hands.
The likes of Conor Bradley, who has already established himself in the first-team, look like they’ve been playing for years, while the likes of Clark, Danns and McConnell already look like they’re mature beyond their years.
Right now, Liverpool looks like a place where everyone wants to be and these young players have reinvigorated the senior players.
Anfield, then, looks very much like being the place to be for young players right now.
