Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested that Gareth Southgate’s comments on Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold are an ‘insult’.
Alexander-Arnold was called-up to the England squad for the latest international break but didn’t feature for England.
Southgate didn’t even include the right-back in his 23-man squad for their final Nations League match against Germany.

The England manager’s decision has split opinion between fans and pundits alike.
Ally McCoist has insisted he should be in the England squad in Qatar, and the decision left Simon Jordon confused.
Agbonlahor believes that Alexander-Arnold should retire from international duty if he doesn’t get selected by Southgate, and focus on his Liverpool career.
He’s not been in the greatest form for his club this season, and some Liverpool fans certainly wouldn’t be against the suggestion.
Agbonlahor: ‘If I was Alexander-Arnold, I would retire from international duty’
Agbonlahor is insistent that Southgate’s comments on Alexander-Arnold are an insult, despite his recent form.
The Liverpool defender still has time to convince Southgate he’s worth bringing to the World Cup.
The Reds have a packed Premier League and European schedule over the next six weeks.

He’s never been first-choice under Southgate though, and he’s definitely not guaranteed a spot in the squad.
Agbonlahor said on TalkSPORT, “If I was Trent (Alexander-Arnold), I would retire from international duty if I didn’t get in the World Cup squad.
“I would retire until a new manager took charge of England and gives me the opportunity.
“What’s the point on going away on these international breaks?
“You can stay with your club, rest, and prepare yourself for Liverpool.
“And for (Gareth) Southgate to come out and say (Kieran) Trippier is all-round better than Trent, I think that’s an insult.
“I do like Trippier, but Trent is an all-round better player.
“(Kyle) Walker and (Reece) James are better for me than Trent, but don’t say Trippier. The joke’s over Gareth.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if he did retire.”
